Florida Keys (Key Largo, Islamorada, & Key West)

Driving time: 1–4 hours depending how far you go

There’s no such thing as a boring drive to the Keys, the journey definitely is part of the destination here. Once you hit the Overseas Highway, it’s all turquoise water, little fishing villages, and one of Florida’s most iconic stretches of road: the Seven Mile Bridge. Roll the windows down, put on your favorite road trip playlist, and enjoy the views and the vibe.

If you’re in the mood for something chill, relaxed, and fishing-focused, the Upper Keys are perfect. Key Largo is home to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, where you can snorkel among colorful fish and coral. In Islamorada, make a stop at Robbie’s Marina, a quirky must-visit where you can feed giant tarpon right off the dock.

For the full island experience, keep driving all the way down to Key West. Spend the day visiting the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum (bonus points if you spot one of the famous six-toed cats), stroll along Duval Street for live music and unique shops, and don’t miss the nightly Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square, complete with street performers and unbeatable views.

Naples & Marco Island

Driving time: 2 hours

If you’re looking for a Gulf Coast getaway with serious “treat yourself” vibes, Naples and Marco Island deliver. Think upscale dining, boutique shopping, white sand beaches, and some of the most jaw-dropping sunsets in Florida.

If you’re up for an ambitious adventure, you can chase the sun across the state. Start your day with an Atlantic sunrise on the east coast, make the drive west, and end your evening watching the sun melt into the Gulf.

Once in Naples, stroll the historic Naples Pier for fishing and dolphin spotting, explore the galleries and cafes along Fifth Avenue South, or take a nature break at the Naples Botanical Garden. Marco Island, just a short drive south, offers laid-back beaches perfect for shelling.

Orlando & The Theme Parks

Driving time: 3 hours

Orlando may be the theme park capital of the world, but getting there is half the adventure. Pack your favorite road trip snacks, queue up a playlist that keeps the energy high, and get ready for a day (or two) of pure magic and big thrills.

If you’re going for the classics, you’ve got your pick of Walt Disney World’s four parks, Universal Orlando’s two main parks, and the brand-new Epic Universe, packed with immersive lands, cutting-edge rides, and next-level theming that’s already wowing visitors. Whether you’re hopping between Cinderella’s Castle and Space Mountain or braving the Jurassic World VelociCoaster, there’s no shortage of ways to fill your day.

Not a theme park person? Orlando’s got plenty more to offer. Explore the charming brick streets and farmers market in Winter Park, hunt for antiques in Mount Dora, or take a swan boat out on Lake Eola. You can make this a jam-packed day trip or turn it into a weekend getaway.

Florida Springs

Driving time: 4-6 hours

When the South Florida heat starts to feel relentless, nothing beats the cool, crystal-clear waters of Florida’s natural springs. Refreshing, stunning, and exactly what you need to recharge.

One of the most famous spots is Ginnie Springs, a privately owned paradise in High Springs that’s perfect for tubing, kayaking, swimming, or just floating in the gentle current. The water stays around 72°F year-round, so it’s refreshing without being freezing, and the visibility is unreal. You can literally see straight to the bottom. Ginnie also has camping and picnic areas, making it a great overnight getaway if you want to stretch your trip beyond a single day.

If you have extra time, nearby springs like Ichetucknee, Blue Spring, and Silver Springs offer their own unique charm, from lazy river floats to glass-bottom boat tours. Whichever you choose, make sure to bring water shoes, a waterproof phone case, and a good cooler.

St. Augustine

Driving time: 5 hours

If you’re craving history, charm, and a side of salty sea breeze, St. Augustine is worth every minute of the drive. Known as the oldest city in the U.S. (by European settlers), it’s a mix of cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and a laid-back coastal vibe.

Start your trip at the Castillo de San Marcos, a 17th-century fort with sweeping waterfront views and centuries of history. Then wander down St. George Street, where you’ll find unique shops, local eats, and live street performers. Take a sip from the legendary Fountain of Youth (just in case the rumors are true), explore Gilded Age treasures at the Lightner Museum, or climb the St. Augustine Lighthouse for panoramic views of the city and coastline.

If you’re staying overnight, take one of the city’s famous ghost tours after dark. The mix of history and haunting tales makes for a memorable evening. And no matter what, don’t leave without catching a sunrise over the Matanzas River or dipping your toes in the Atlantic at St. Augustine Beach.
